Why it works
Research (including CASEL's systemic SEL framework) shows SEL is most effective when implemented schoolwide and systemically, consistent across classrooms, integrated into academics and climate, supported by adult SEL and wellbeing, and sustained over time, rather than left to individual teachers or delivered as an isolated curriculum. Effective implementation attends to a shared vision, educator buy-in and capacity, integration rather than add-on, family and community partnership, and continuous improvement, treating SEL as part of how the school works, not a program.
The research: CASEL systemic SEL; research on SEL implementation.
