Why it works
Family and consumer sciences (FCS) is a research-grounded field covering the practical knowledge and skills for individual and family wellbeing: nutrition and food science, personal and family finance, human development and parenting, relationships, consumer decision-making, and more. Guided by national standards, strong FCS teaching combines content knowledge with hands-on, applied learning and real-life decision-making, preparing students for the practical demands of adult life, which research shows are underserved by traditional academics alone.
The research: National FCS education standards (AAFCS).
