Why it works
Culinary arts is a rich career and technical education field that combines food science and chemistry, technique and craft, creativity, nutrition, sanitation and safety, and professional and business skills, preparing students for a large industry. Strong culinary education, like other CTE, combines classroom and hands-on lab learning, industry-standard skills and certifications (food safety), experiential projects, and real career connections, with rigor throughout. Teaching it as genuine professional preparation, not just cooking for fun, serves students and the field.
The research: CTE and culinary education standards (ProStart; ServSafe).
